Location and Access

Shinshu Hounan Junior College is located in the town of Tatsuno, situated at the northern end of the Ina Valley in the southern region of the Nagano Prefecture. Tatsuno has long flourished as a key transportation hub connecting the Chūshin, Suwa, and Ina regions. Train access has become less convenient since the Chūō Line was rerouted to connect directly between Okaya and Shiojiri. However, the College has since been requesting additional services from JR each year.
The campus is about 20-minute on foot from JR Tatsuno Station and approximately 15 minutes on foot from Miyaki Station. Though railway access is limited, highway bus transportation is highly convenient, with regular service to Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, and within the Nagano Prefecture (including Iida and Nagano City). The nearest Tatsuno bus stop is only a 5 minute walk to the College, so a small number of students choose to commute by highway buses.
The college is located on the eastern side of Tatsuno Town, with an affliated elementary school, junior high school, high school and preschool extending westward, forming a continuous stream of educational insitutions from preschool through junior college. The Tenryu River flows nearby, and the campus is surrounded by natural beauty.

Tatsuno, located near the geographical center of Japan, has a population of about 19,000 and a strong manufacturing industry. It is also known for Matsuo Gorge, one of eastern Japan’s best-known firefly viewing spots.

  • Access:
  • By JR: About 25 minutes on foot from Tatsuno Station / about 15 minutes from Miyaki Station
  • By Highway Bus: About 5 minutes on foot from Tatsuno Bus Stop
